The AM Last Page (LP) is a valued feature of our journal Academic Medicine. LPs are designed to make the journal’s content more accessible to more people by promoting a general understanding of important issues that affect learners and faculty, medical schools and teaching hospitals. LPs do this by succinctly telling a visual story through images or figures and complementary text of theories, frameworks, phenomena, controversies, policies, or trends important to medical education or the medical community at large.
LPs debuted in 2008, before the journal began publishing online only. Because LPs were designed for print publication, our transition to digital publication presents opportunities to streamline the production and publication processes for LPs. Making these changes requires that we build a new process for LP production with new submission requirements and design elements.
To ensure that we maintain the spirit of LPs and that future LP submissions will be optimized for our new layout, we will be pausing new LP submissions temporarily until July 1 until we can provide updated guidance for our authors. All LP submissions currently accepted or under consideration will continue to move forward through the review and publication processes. Authors of current submissions may be asked to make major revisions to bring their files in line with new requirements.
We are grateful to all the authors and readers who have supported LPs over the years and are excited to continue our journal’s dedication to this feature in a way that will align with our new layout.
